ABOUT US
We opened our doors in October of 1996 to serve victims of sexual assault in the city of Albuquerque. The SANE Collaborative was founded with the leadership and participation of community members, aided by state and city agencies such as: the New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs, the Albuquerque Police Department, the Rape Crisis Center of Central New Mexico, the District Attorney’s Office, advocacy groups, and local hospitals. It was the desire of these organizations to provide a major service for victims: holistic nursing care.
In February of 2010, we began offering medical/forensic exams to victims of domestic violence.
Today our services have expanded even more in our pursuit to serve the people of Albuquerque, and our SANEs now screen for strangulation and human trafficking.
Visits to the emergency department are not necessary prior to visiting SANE; however, the nurse examiner might determine that injuries are serious enough to visit the emergency department prior to making an appointment.
Our Mission Statement: Albuquerque SANE serves patients who have experienced sexual assault, domestic and intimate partner violence, or human trafficking by providing prompt, compassionate, culturally sensitive, and comprehensive medical treatment and forensic documentation by nurse experts within a coordinated community response.
