Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners
Albuquerque SANE relies on the selfless dedication of our Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs). We currently employ 15+ nurses that provide 24/7 coverage to the central counties of New Mexico: Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance, and Valencia.
Meet the Staff.
Executive Director
Shannon Lowry, MS
Shannon Lowry (she/her) has served as our Executive Director since 2023. Before assuming leadership of SANE, she was employed by the Office of the Texas Governor, working on the Sexual Assault Survivor’s Task Force. She has spent the last 15 years in direct services, advocacy, and training.
She understands the value of working within a multi-disciplinary approach, to better serve clients and has spent many years working with and for law enforcement. Shannon holds a master's degree in Victim Services Management and embodies the motto of her alma mater, "the measure of a life is its service".

"Being victim centered is more that something we say, it's something we live out every single day as we serve our clients and community and being trauma-informed starts with how we treat our staff."

"I've felt strongly about women's rights since I was a teenager. It is humbling to be able to serve fellow survivors through my work here. I never want to forget just how sacred it is that we're able to support people during some of the darkest periods of their lives. Absolutely no one needs to go through this thinking they're alone."
